PSRA/Newsweek Polls - Gay and Lesbian Issues

These two PSRA/Newsweek polls featuring a range of questions about gay and lesbian issues were conducted at the turn of the century. Topics in the 2000 PSRA dataset include protecting the rights of gays and lesbians, the nature of homosexuality (choice vs. inherent), and discrimination against gays and lesbians.  The 2002 dataset asks about the intersections of homosexuality and religious issues, such as gays and lesbians in the clergy, homosexuality as sinful, and ability of gay men to lead a priest’s chaste life.  Additional questions deal with the presidential election and sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.  These surveys mark an early part of 21st century public opinion history on gay rights.

The 2000 data was collected from March 9th – 10th, 2000 of 803 national adults via telephone by Princeton Survey Research Associates.  The 2002 data was collected from April 25th – 26th, 2002 of 1,000 national adults via telephone by Princeton Survey Research Associates.  Explore the results and questions of the datasets in iPOLL.
